The Collins dictionary defines hypnosis as, "an artificially induced state of semiconsciousness characterised by an increased suggestibility to the words of the hypnotist.", hypnotherapy as, "the use of hypnosis in the treatment of physical or mental disorders." and psychotherapy as "the use of pychological (as opposed to physical) methods to treat mental disorders."
As an example; stopping smoking using nicotine patches is a physical treatment, stopping by attending a support group, using the idea of talking to people in the same situation and sharing stories is using psychological methods. Hypnotherapy, would put you in a state where you can draw upon your own, often unrealised, resources and if you were a member of a support group possibly become an inspiration to them. Once you have accessed your resources it becomes easier to use them for different challenges.
You will be relaxed and will use the power of your sub-conscious mind to help you achieve what ever it is that you want to do. You will only respond to suggestions that are beneficial to you. The therapist can only help you to achieve what you want and are capable of.
Hypnoanalysis, uses hypnosis in conjunction with proven therapeutic techniques to help you find and deal with the root cause of your, anxiety, phobia, feelings of worthlessness, underachievement, lack of confidence and self motivation.
The particular types of analysis practised at County Practise are Free Association and Regression to Cause.
Free Association enables the sub-conscious mind to find it's way to the root cause of a symptom via related memories. The clever thing about this is that seemingly un-related issues are also dealt with, its a sort of 'buy one get one free' deal. The emphasis should be on the word free because this therapy can be a truly freeing experience.
Regression to Cause is a more focused therapy and whilst in therapy we will concentrate on overcoming one symptom. As only one issue is being dealt with the course of therapy is shorter than Free Association but can only find release from the specific anxiety we are looking at.
Parts therapy is a technique that enables us to access different parts of our personality. It is a powerful tool that allows us to resolve, for instance, the common issue of yoyo dieting.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is remarkably similar to suggestion therapy but, without the hypnosis. The book "Overcoming Compulsive Gambling" written by Alex Blaszczynski, advises the reader on 'Learning Imaginal Desensitization' p130 and the use of audio recordings of your imagined scenes. The description of the relaxation techniques barely distinguishes them from self hypnosis. The book is available in Harwich library.
SymbioDynamics, Life Mapper Life Coaching a powerful method of coaching, developed by Terence Watts, that enables you to focus on and resolve an issue. A simple description of the method is that you draw on three internal resources and apply the most relevant resource when appropriate. This life coaching method does not require hypnosis. A work book is provided and the M.A.G.I.C. for Minds book, written by Terence Watts, is provided free. Sessions are for 90 minutes, but there is 'homework' .
